Te Tamaiti, He Maatauranga te Kai, He Taniwha te Tangata

NAU MAI, HAERE MAI!

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Otepou is no ordinary school. 2007 brings a whole host of educational opportunities for our tamariki. The school is situated in a prime rural setting and in close proximity to both the Moana and the Ngahere.
Speaking With The Ancestors (Te Reo Hariki) is an expression we have adopted, and best describes the essence of our 2006 educational opportunities we will be providing to our tamariki.
The Kura is underpinned by the philosophy of Te Aho Matua, and it is these principals that enable us to exercise our uniqueness as Tangata whenua. Speaking with the ancestors takes education into the natural environment, not confining our lessons to a classroom setting. Yester year's children were equipped with life skills, these skills are rarely taught to our tamariki.

  • Here is a snippet of what your child or children can expect at Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Otepou.

MOANA & NGAHERE EXCURSIONS

Otepou is surrounded by both Moana and Ngahere, the entire kura will experience an Ngahere and Moana excursion each term.
Talking with the ancestors is an ancestral educational experience where our tamariki are exposed to customs and protocols for they are the future leaders and repositories of future Matauranga Maori.

MAU RAKAU

The entire Kura will learn aspects of Mau Rakau discipline. This exercise regime will be incorporated into the children's bi-daily routines.

KURA MARAE

Kura will take place on local Marae twice a term, where the tamariki will engage in workshops with the kaumatua and Kaitiaki of each Marae.
