Kia ora,
We have just completed our fourth gathering at Hairini marae and again it was lovely to see everyone.
The weekend unfolds
As different ones arrived on Friday night to set up their beds in the wharenui, an awesome sense of fellowship unfolded as we caught up on one another’s news since the last gathering and with the rain coming down that night, it created a great atmosphere enjoy each others presence and share about how things are going and an opportunity to pray into certain things.
…speaking of the weather, a few people were unable to make the gathering due colds…
Following our prayer time, we were blessed to hear Monte Ohia’s revelation (via DVD) on the haka ‘ka mate, ka mate’ It gave us a fresh understanding as Monte shared insight to the words, the authors character and tikanga/protocol. It sure blew us away!
Guest speaker: Pane Kawhia was our guest speaker this weekend and we were blessed to have her spend time with us sharing her journey and about cross cultural understanding – being in another context.
Something that really stood out on Friday and Saturday morning was the importance of sharing your story which brought each one to a new level of relationship as each one shared.
“I was blessed to hear more about one another’s story, their journey”
“one thing I realized is that we seem to respond to stories more so then a preached word. There is a point of identification and an acknowledgement of ‘yeah, that’s me too”
Pane certainly brought her uniqueness with her. Her joy, laughter and heart for people was evident.
Saturday night we got into pairs to act out the story of the women at the well. Here was a story where Jesus crossed over into another context with a Samaritan woman and spoke truth by using things in context such as the water. We were encouraged with that passage and entertained with the acting J There were some pretty good actors in the mix J
With outreach approaching soon, we will cross over into another context as we move from NZ to communities in Hawaii. What tools would we use to encourage people to move from one point to the next? How are we to respond should we observe or be asked to participate in something we would culturally not do at home? As Pane put it “love must be the higher way”
Saturday afternoon
Due to the rain, we were not able to do any weaving as planned so we spent Saturday afternoon going over and fine tuning the songs we have been learning. (Almost got things down to a tee J)
Kids programme
Much appreciation to Katie and the team from House of Prayer. As always the kids enjoyed their time with them on Sundays. We are blessed with seeing new people each time that come with Katie.
Scott, Marina and Ray between them were able to do things with the kids on Saturday.
Many thanks to Hairini, Ngai te ahi for the use of the Marae. To all the volunteers for an awesome job with the children and our guest speaker Pane Kawhia.
Next gathering is 16-18 June at Tahuwhakatiki Marae.
