Kia ora everyone,
Time sure has gone buy pretty quick from our first gathering in March till our final gathering this past weekend prior to outreach.
The weekend unfolds
Our final gathering was hosted at Tahuwhakatiki Marae. The kaumatua (elders) were there to welcome us to their Marae and also put on a meal for us. Our kaumatua Brian and Janice Kawe were with us at the welcome.
Friday night was mainly fellowship which ready set the scene throughout our last weekend together.
Saturday Morning
“The people of Ephraim turned in the day of battle because they forgot what the Lord had done”
Saturday morning we looked back at the 4 previous gatherings to process the things that stood out, that impacted our lives, that were highlights for us and to bring those things to the forefront as ‘stones of remembrance’. So we got out magazines, scissors, glue, tape, paper and colouring pencils to creatively bring those milestones to the forefront again lest we forget what the Lord had done and turn in our day of battle.
The children spent time with Richard Betts and his daughter Leilani from IWT that morning.
Saturday Afternoon
Due to the rain (again), we were not able to do any weaving as planned so we spent Saturday afternoon preparing a feast for all the volunteers that have helped us with the children over the past 4 gatherings. We are so blessed that they could help us.
It’s while washing dishes, peeling potatoes and the like, that new levels of relationships are built
Saturday Night's feast!
Check out the menu: Raw fish, muscles, creamed paua, lamb roast, roast kumara, roast potatoes and salad. Cheese cake, chocolate log, mud cake, tea, coffee and soft drinks. A mouth watering menu aye J
To all the volunteers a big thank you to you all! (yet to get photos of Sonny & Christine Walker and Richard Betts)
Vania & Kareen
Kate & team from the House of Prayer
After the dishes Sonny Walker encouraged us all with words of encouragement. We continued to share our stones of remembrance, talked about outreach and sealed our time by praying for the miracles needed.
It was to be an early finish the next day as the out rigger canoes were in Rotorua so we were unable to go out on the water. So out came the guitar that Saturday night for few action songs etc, then out came the brooms for a bit of a tidy up, followed by the mops while others were preparing breakfast for Sunday morning.
Sunday Morning
Up the next morning to pack up, clean up and have breakfast before saying our good byes. Many thanks to Nga Potiki for the use of Tahuwhakatiki marae. Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou katoa!
It was pretty cold that morning, all the vehicles were iced and frost covered the ground. It was freezing! (Its nice to know that it is summer in Hawaii :)
What's next?
Well, the next time we gather will be in a couple of weeks when we head off to Hawaii for outreach. There is a deadline for those who are still believing to go and that is the 26th June exactly a weeks time.
Hawaii is more then a destination, more then a beautiful location, its more then the sounds of the ukulele and steel guitar, the coconut trees and pineapple, its more then the beaches and sunsets..... It's about people. There are people that live there with the same issues as us, there are the lonely, the hungry, the drug addicts, orphaned, those imprisoned, the widows and the like. Real people that we can tell our story as we walk along side them.
As Frank Naea mentioned “As you tell your story, they can relate to you because you also are telling their story and that is Missions”
Below is the team that are going on outreach to Hawaii. (Shane, Freda and their four kids - LSharna, Peyton, Jacob and Canaan; Nathaniel, Lorel and their two kids - Hoia and Awatea; Karen; Aroha and her grand daughter Tyler)
