Yep, time certainly has gone by very fast. This was our final noho marae for Te Haerenga Kawhia 2008. The weekend unfolds Most of the Waiuku crew were not able to make it this weekend due to a tangi. Our hearts and thoughts go out to the whanau at this time. Ratou te hunga mate ki a ratou, Tatou te hunga ora ki a tatou. As always, it was great to be back in Kawhia. Bit on the cold side I must admit but never the less the weather was not going to deter us one bit. With the knowledge that this was the last of our 5 noho marae we gathered together like penguins in a storm, snuggled shoulder to shoulder. After our kai and mihimihi the whare was filled with waiata! Saturday Our guest this weekend was Pane Kawhia who came together with her mum and sister for the weekend. Pane brought such love, laughter, heart and a genuine relationship to her korero and gathering. Within our heart of hearts, there is a cry for love and freedom During life experiences we get different messages of love & freedom and therefore base our lives on those things resulting and reflecting unhealthy love and bondage. Pane talked about the women at the well. Jesus comes to the well and meets a women who in the eyes of people in the time was pretty low, a women, Samaritan, and one who had a few husbands. He cuts right across the prejudices of others an meets her where she was at. Our love and freedom comes from Him. Draw from the well of living water Saturday night the rangatahi had a session with Shane and Ray who shared their story while adults had another session with Pane. All the kids were snuggled up in their beds watching the Lion King! Later on that night we, like penguins again, gathered around the fire singing, laughing and talking stories. We had a great time with Shinsoon our Korean friend who has been faithful in coming to Te haerenga. The night again was full of love and freedom. Sunday The finger prints of God are so awesome. There are so many sign posts to use within creation and culture as teaching tools. Sunday morning we sat outside the mahau and after a few waiata we discussed some of the qualities of God by the visible things He made. The canvas was already set as we looked all around us on the marae, sea views, rolling hills and a gentle shower from heaven. For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities-His eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Rom 1:20 Pane finished our session with communion. It was such an awesome picture as we all sat around the table with cups of water and pieces of bread. It certainly was the appropriate thing to do as we remembered God through our journey and the appreciation of those around us in this journey together. As we closed our time with acknowledgements, thank yous, encouragements, we took a step forward to symbolize the entrance into a new season and bringing this part of Te Haerenga to a closure. This all happened in the kitchen all squashed together. You could not help but think of the proverb 'Ka pai ki muri, ka pai ki mua, ka pai nga mea katoa' (if the backs right, the fronts right, its all good) Well...there seems to be a sense of transition happening, an eagerness to move forward. A transition from rowing the canoe to now steering. The challenge of navigating is set before us .... watch this space .... Ngaa mihi ki te Poari o Waipapa marae, ngaa kaitiaki o Ngati Hikairo, Kawhia Moana kua tuwhera mai nei te tatau o Takuhiahia. Hau! Paimarire
