Tauranga comes closer to the end of part one of Te Haerenga. Hosted at Maungatapu marae we started our pohiri at 5pm due to daylight saving. We could actually see the people coming onto the marae this time :) A few were away this weekend but we had a number of visitors that represented cultures from England, Philippines, Vanuatu, Aussie and Brazil. So that left us with a small cosy whanau that would sit under the teaching of Sam Chapman over the weekend. The weekend unfolds Saturday began with a pohiri for Sam and his friend Rick together with some of the Te Haerenga crew that also arrived that morning. Having welcomed our guest and friends to Maungatapu we gathered to hear what the lord has to share with us. The teaching was outstanding with many words of wisdom from Sam Chapman. Sam’s relaxed, “hard case” style of presenting put us all at ease and we were very blessed by his korero. We were asked to consider how do we look at the world? Do we see a world of need? Or a world of plenty? Do we have confidence in God’s promises to us? The perception that we must face “reality” is without a doubt the greatest single constraint on our imagination, vision and enterprise – the way we think therefore the way we are! God has another way – Life in all it’s fullness for all! We need to practice living in the light of the awareness that God has a plan and purpose for each of us, that he has the best of the best and nothing but the best for us! WHANAU – HAPU – IWI God’s idea – He creates a whanau with purpose in mind to become recipients of his love! Sam shared the story of Jesus with the woman at the well. He challenged us to consider how Jesus made her feel, spending time with her - a Samaritan and a woman! We were asked to reflect on how other people feel when we are with them. Do we think they feel accepted, loved and valued by us? Are we prepared to meet with people in their brokenness and walk with them on their journey to healing and restoration? Wow! A great challenge for each of us. One who draws a circle around himself and looks after himself is a Good man, one who draws a circle around himself and his family and takes care of their needs is a Very good man, the one who draws a circle around himself, his family and the community is a Great man. Saturday night we were joined by Jason and Tatiana Hotere and their two little girls and were really privileged to hear their amazing testimonies and the power of God working in their lives. It was also great to see Jason bend steel around George’s head! And the tamariki were delighted to see the exploding hot water bottle! Better still was to see people respond to God to give their lives to Him and for us to lay down our walls in need to see a break through in areas of our lives. Jesus visits us in the brokeness of peoples lives It was certainly a very rich time together and looking forward to our next noho Marae in May. A big thanks to Freda and her team for faithfully taking care of the under 5's and Nathaniel and his team for taking care of the rest of the children! Nga mihi ki a Maungatapu marae, Ngati He! Tau ke! Ka kite ano a te hui whakamutunga!
